The Environmental Protection Division of Blood Tribe Land Management plays a central role in research, monitoring, reporting, and community engagement to support sustainable land stewardship, including programs such as range health assessments, invasive species management, and ecological monitoring.
About the Presenter:
Alvin First Rider is an Environmental Manager with the Blood Tribe Land Management Environmental Protection Division, where he currently serves as Interim Environmental Protection Manager. He is a member of the Blood Tribe (Kainai Nation) and a descendant of the Blackfoot (Blackfeet) Nation. Alvin was raised on the Blood Reserve in southern Alberta and in north-central Montana, and he holds post-secondary credentials in environmental science and land management, including studies at Blackfeet Community College and Salish Kootenai College.
In his professional work, Alvin focuses on mitigating environmental impacts of land use and development on Blood Reserve lands, incorporating both scientific and traditional Indigenous approaches to land stewardship.
