Bring your own lunch and join us for our artist talk series “Art for Lunch,” where we invite local artists to share their work and research with the community.

Our March presentation will feature Garnet Dyck and take place Tuesday, March 24, from 12-1 pm in the AGSC Conference room.

Garnet Dyck is a Swift Current Artist who creates art with an enthusiasm to capture special moments on canvas. He has developed his style out of a personal need for expression using acrylic paint as his medium of choice. Born and raised in rural Saskatchewan he found recognition in art class at a young age. Having a natural interest in art has been a part of his entire life, however, as an adult he took a different career path. Life demands caused him to put on the back burner his dream for being an artist. The desire to pursue art was hidden inside, and sparked later in life when he took art classes at the Swift Current Art Gallery

Upon retirement from teaching, he decided to reconnect with his childhood passion for art. Garnet began to paint, rediscovering the artist in him. Much of his journey has been by trial and error, and a variety of opportunities to learn skills for his practice.

While creating for personal fulfillment, his art caught attention in the community, leading him to contribute to the Swift Current West Wing Summer Art Show. His art has been collected by several private individuals. He is known for his embrace of colour and relatable subject matter.

Today, Garnet works from his basement and gets together with like minded artists to share his passion for art. He evokes feelings of emotion for the viewer to connect. His Artistic journey continues to evolve, as he refines his craft.
