The Write Out Loud 2018-2019 Season continues on Wednesday, October 17 featuring author, Suzanne North.

North’s Phoebe Fairfax mystery series provides laughter and suspense in equal measure. Murder methods in her books include a sushi knife through the heart, a dose of agricultural pesticide, and a skull bashed in by a fossil dinosaur egg.

Her latest novel, Flying Time, was named 2015 University of Regina Book of the Year at the Saskatchewan Book Awards. Well-known Regina writer, Gail Bowen, describes Flying Time as “a book with a heart, a brain, and a funny bone”. Set in 1939, it tackles the subject of racial tension and government-endorsed racism that saw Japanese/Canadian citizens interned, but North leaves room for quirky humour in this fictional memoir.

Suzanne draws writing ideas from her varied background. She’s been a writer, interviewer, and announcer for CBC TV, a waitress at a vegetarian restaurant, editor of a feminist newspaper, a high school teacher, a pianist for a ballet school, a “slightly unbalanced” bookkeeper, and more. She lives in Saskatoon with her husband, an arachnologist, and 30,000 dead spiders. Her presentation promises to be entertaining.

Write Out Loud is pleased to recognize the support of the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild for this reading.

Write Out Loud commences October 17 at Swift Current’s Lyric Theatre. Admission is $8. Doors open at 6:30. Local musician, Griffin Funk, will entertain at 7:00, and Suzanne North’s presentation will follow.
